Penguins assistant coach Ty Hennes named to United States' staff for IIHF World Championship

Assistant coach Ty Hennes has been with the Penguins since 2018.

Pittsburgh Penguins assistant coach Ty Hennes has been named to the United States’ staff in an identical capacity for the upcoming International Ice Hockey Federation’s (IIHF) World Championship tournament.

Hockey USA announced Hennes’ appointment via a release on Friday.

Hennes, 44, has been with the Penguins since 2018. Initially hired as a skating and skills development coach, Hennes was promoted to assistant in November of 2022.

Before joining the Penguins, Hennes was a skill development professional with the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry.

A Dickinson, N.D. native, who grew up in Kent, Wash., Hennes previously worked with USA Hockey as American development model regional manager from 2013-15.

Minnesota Wild coach John Hynes, formerly head coach of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, is serving as the United States’ coach for the upcoming tournament which will be staged in Czechia, May 10-26.
